FEUERLAND (Germany) London, Aug 11 — Information received from Kiel, dated today, states: On the way from Hamburg to Cuxhaven the former expedition ship Feuerland sustained a water ingress, which led to a machine failure, in the afternoon of Aug 7. The ship had to be towed into port and was berthed at the “Alte Liebe”. The water had poured in through damaged deck plating. The vessel, the construction of which was based on a fishing vessel, was built in Busum in 1927. It served the fireland and Cape Horn researcher Gunther Plueschow as the base for a first survey by air with a Heinkel He 24 W waterplane. Feuerland was used in the Argentine after Plueschow’s death in 1931 as a multi-purpose ship and also served in the Falkland-war as Penelope. After having been bought by a German owner this year it was returned to Germany on the deck of container carrier Monte Cervantes. It is to be converted to a museum ship in Busum where it is expected to arrive Aug 12 in spite of the mishap. London, Aug 14 — Information received from Kiel, dated today, states:Exhibition ship Feuerland reached Busum Aug 11.
