![In 1906, the Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego acquired most of the sheep-ranching lands in the Chilean province of Última Esperanza, located some 150 miles north of the Strait of Magellan. The existing fat-rendering plant at Puerto Bories was replaced in 1915 by this large-scale freezing works, with a capacity of 300,000 animals per season.All photographs in this album are taken from a large-format book by Carlos Foresti, published c1918, shortly after the plant started operation. This book originally belonged to Nicolás Fadic Rendic, SETF employee from 1918 to 1970. Thanks to Juan Mac-Lean for authorizing these reproductions.
